Part 11. Polimaster develops the first Personal Radiation Detector with Bluetooth

Personal Radiation Detectors (PRDs) are portable instruments designed to detect and measure levels of ionizing radiation, such as gamma rays and X-rays. They are typically used by first responders, security personnel, and workers in environments where radiation exposure is a concern. PRDs are crucial for identifying the presence of radiation, measuring its intensity, and ensuring safety by alerting users to potentially dangerous levels. Commonly utilized by border security, emergency response teams, and personnel in nuclear facilities, these devices play a vital role in protecting individuals from harmful exposure and ensuring adherence to safety regulations.

Polimaster, a leading provider of PRDs, offers a wide range of devices designed for applications in law enforcement, emergency response, and industrial settings. Many modern PRDs come equipped with Bluetooth capabilities, enhancing their functionality and convenience. However, it was Polimaster that introduced in 2015 the first Bluetooth-enabled PRD, the PM1703MO-1BT as a basic feature in PRDs. This model improved upon the previous PM1703MO-1 by incorporating Bluetooth technology, allowing wireless communication with smartphones, tablets, and other devices. This innovation significantly enhanced the PRD’s functionality, enabling real-time data transmission, remote monitoring, and simplified data management and analysis, making the PM1703MO-1BT a versatile and user-friendly choice for professionals needing reliable radiation detection and monitoring.

The PM1703 series now includes several models with Bluetooth connectivity, allowing them to be paired with smartphones for advanced functionality through the free Polismart® App. This app provides users with in-depth radiation exposure analytics and real-time measurement monitoring, enables changes to instrument settings, records GPS-referenced measurements, uploads stored data to smartphones, and allows for sending measurement histories via the Internet, among other features.

All the Polimaster PRDs are highly sensitive and durable, capable of detecting and locating even trace amounts of radioactive materials. They feature a NORM suppression algorithm that distinguishes between increases in natural gamma background levels and the detection of Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORM). Designed with a clip for various wearing options and easy operation even for non-specialists, these PRDs are ideal for public security agencies such as border control, rescue teams, police, and anti-terrorist units, enabling quick searches for radioactive materials in public areas.
